Keeping Our Pets Safe

PETA has some tips on how to keep your dog safe during the hot summer months

As the summer heat continues to sizzle in the DMV, I have some friendly tips this morning on how to make sure we are keeping our four-legged fury family members safe in the hot weather.  My guest is Diana Mendoza – Companion Animal Program Manager for PETA.

Even on a relatively mild 86-degree day, the sidewalk can reach 135 degrees—hot enough to burn anyone’s bare feet, including dogs’! PETA’s PSA urges dog guardians to test the sidewalk’s temperature with their hands, avoid midday walks, walk in the grass, take breaks in the shade, watch out for signs of heatstroke, and bring along plenty of water to help dogs stay happy and healthy on walks all summer long.
