(Friday, January 7, 2021) – The three white men convicted of the murder of Black jogger Ahmaud Arbery have been sentenced to life in prison and two of them will likely die behind bars.
Travis McMichael and his father Gregory McMichael were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Their neighbor William Bryan was granted the possibility of parole, but he must first serve at least 30 years in prison.
Murder carries a mandatory sentence of life in prison under Georgia law unless prosecutors seek the death penalty. Superior Court Judge Timothy Walmsley presided over the case and sentencing.
Arbery was jogging through a Brunswick neighborhood when he was chased down by the three gun toting men.
