Upper Marlboro, MD (Tuesday, March 1, 2022) – Mike and Pam Morgan are counting the hours until their 31-year-old son Maurice Creek makes a safe return home from war torn Ukraine.  He’s been in the Russian invaded country playing basketball, but his sports dream quickly turned into a nightmare last Thursday.

“We don’t watch a lot of news so when I got a call that the war was underway in Ukraine my heart sank,” said Pam Morgan.  She alerted her husband and they quickly called their son (Maurice) to tell him that he needed to get a flight and get out of Ukraine.  Unfortunately, it was too late.  The airports had already been targeted and roadways were flooded.

“He told us that his coach advised them to wait it out in their apartments.  I said we need a plan B and I started frantically making calls to get my son home.”  Creek was able to get a ride out of Mykolav,Ukraine on Tuesday.

While Maurice Creek, is still not back to his Upper Marlboro, Maryland home; he has been able to safely get to Budapest, Hungary.  Creek is scheduled to fly into Dulles International Airport Thursday.

The Morgans say they had been working for weeks to get their son out of Ukraine.  But the Municipal Basketball Club in Mykolav, Ukraine wanted Creek to stay because he was helping them to win games.  The Morgans believe the team focused more on winning games than her son’s safety.
