DC Reports 122 Cases Of MonkeyPox

New information released from the DC Department of Public Health shows that since May the city has reported 122 cases of MonkeyPox.

“Monkeypox is a rare, but potentially serious viral illness that can be transmitted from person to person through direct contact with the infectious rash, scabs, or body fluids,” DC Health says.

Monkeypox appears to spread through sexual activity or very close contact.


Monkeypox symptoms include fever and body aches as well as swollen lymph nodes and a rash, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

DC residents can register for a MonkeyPox vaccine at preventmonkeypox.dc.gov.
