According to TMZ, Cara passed away Friday in her Florida home. There are no details of her death.

According to TMZ, Cara passed away Friday in her Florida home of undisclosed cause.
Her publicist Judith A. Moose wrote, “It is with profound sadness that on behalf of her family I announce the passing of Irene Cara. Irene’s family has requested privacy as they process their grief. She was a beautifully gifted soul whose legacy will live forever through her music and films.”
She was an Oscar award winner for her original song “What A Feeling” , from the movie “Flashdance”.
Irene put her name in lights with her Golden Globe nomination for ” Best Actress” in the movie “Fame” that featured her hit song, “Fame”.
Cara’s movie career includes “City Heat,” co-starring Clint Eastwood and Burt Reynolds. She was in the move “Certain Fury”opposite Tatum O’Neal.
She was honored in 2004 with the Prestige Award for Lifetime Achievement.
