(Washington, DC) — A Metro train operator is out of a job after an investigation found he broke several rules that put passengers at risk. The Washington Metrorail Safety Commission said Tuesday that a probe found the operator switched to autopilot during a trip March 17th and ate a meal, both safety policy violations. The investigation was launched because his train skipped a stop in Virginia. The train operator did admit to using the autopilot feature even though it’s not yet authorized, but said he did it out of curiosity.
