(Wednesday, June 21, 2023) – The Federal Trade Commission is taking aim at Amazon, alleging the e-commerce giant tricked millions of consumers into signing up for its Prime subscription service.
The FTC filed suit Wednesday in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington. The suit accuses Amazon of using “manipulative, coercive, or deceptive user-interface designs known as dark patterns’ to trick consumers into enrolling in automatically-renewing Prime subscriptions.”
The FTC added that Amazon made it harder to cancel subscriptions after consumers enrolled. No comment as yet from Amazon.
