(Fairfax, VA) — The school board in Fairfax County says it will take about 100-thousand dollars to rename a high school before the start of the next school year. School members voted to change the name of W.T. Woodson High School last month after learning that former superintendent Wilbert Tucker Woodson opposed desegregation. The school will be renamed for Carter G. Woodson, a historian who helped originate the study of Black history in the United States. A school name change would usually cost around 300-thousand dollars, but the school district says it will cost less since some items at the high school simply say “Woodson” and won’t need to be replaced.
