Federal Appeals Hears Trump Immunity Claim

(Washington, DC) — A federal appeals court is considering whether Donald Trump is immune from prosecution on charges he illegally tried to overturn the 2020 election. During a hearing today, appeals court judge Florence Pan asked a Trump lawyer whether a president would be immune for having taken a bribe or ordering SEAL TEAM 6 to murder a political rival. Trump lawyer D. John Sauer said a president would need to be impeached and convicted first. Sauer argued Trump has immunity in the case because he was acting in his capacity as president. Prosecutors urged the court to reject Trump’s effort to dismiss the case.
