A 4.8 magnitude earthquake centered about 50 miles from New York City is being reported. The tremor was felt throughout the Northeast, including New York City. The U.S. Geological Survey says the quake happened near Lebanon, New Jersey just before 10:30 a.m. local time.
A ground stop is an effect at New York City area airports following this morning’s earthquake. The FAA has issued the ground stop for John F. Kennedy and Newark Liberty International airports until 12:30 p.m. local time. Ground crews are inspecting runways for any damage. Travelers at the airports are seeing delays of about a half hour. A ground stop was also issued for Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
