The lowest rated hospitals in the U.S. are becoming more deadly. New research released today shows patients’ risk of dying from medical mistakes, infections, and lapses in safety have gotten much worse at the most troubled hospitals. The nonprofit Leapfrog group has issued letter grades for the 26-hundred hospitals it studied. Leapfrog gave failing or near-failing grades to 168 hospitals. Hospitals with failing grades include United Medical Center in Washington, DC, Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan, and St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Far Rockaway, New York.
