Police in Greenbelt make a surprise arrest. An 18-year-old has been charged with an attempted sexual assault of a woman.
Police have identified the suspect as Vashann Robinson. The teen is accused of an August 6th attack in College Park.
The victim says the man walked up to her in the 4400 block of Guilford Drive and asked if she could help him find his dog. At first the woman said “No”. He asked her again a little later and she agreed to. She said as they searched together he grabbed her and tried to pull her into a nearby parking lot. A bystander saw what was happening and shouted at the suspect. He then just ran away. The woman was not seriously hurt.
Investigators were able to use surveillance images of the suspect to identify him. In fact, when he as arrested days later he was wearing the same thing as seen in surveillance footage.
Robinson who has admitted to the crime remains in police custody. He has also been denied bond. Officers are looking to see if he is linked to other similar cases.
