(Washington, DC) — Starting today, the District of Columbia will no longer collect sales tax on diapers. The DC Council in 2016 passed a measure ending the tax on feminine hygiene products and diapers. Eliminating the tax was an effort to help families in the city cut costs. Meanwhile, sodas and sugary drinks are subject to an eight-percent sales tax beginning today, up from the city’s standard six-percent tax.
