Dozens of individuals, families, businesses, and Greek letter organizations responded to the request to provide winter gear to homeless and low-income families in the DMV. On average, there are more than 50k youth in the region who are living at or below the poverty line. The 96.3 WHUR Coat Drive is an effort to help families struggling to make ends meet and kicks off the station’s “Season of Giving.”
More than 330 new coats were collected along with 372 hats and gloves. The winter items will be distributed to children serviced by Shepherd’s Cove Shelter, Prince George’s County Family Justice Center, and SE Tennis and Learning Center. WHUR will host a Winter Gear Pop Up Shop Thursday, October 24th from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at the Howard University Burr Gymnasium where the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams will help the youngsters pick out their coats, hats, and gloves.
