The daughter of former Maryland Delegate Tawanna Gaines has been arrested and charged with wire fraud.
The charges on Tuesday come just days after Gaines plea guilty to misusing her campaign funds for personal use. 43-year-old Anitra Edmond is daughter of Gaines and she served as her campaign treasurer. She is accused of funnelling money from her mother’s campaign into her personal account. It unclear how much she is accused of stealing but sources close say if she is convicted the government will request her to forfeit at least $35,188.
Edmonds who had not yet entered a plea is due back in court to answer to the charges on November 18th. Her mother will be sentenced on January 3rd. Gaines could get up to 8 years in prison and have to pay more than $22,000.00 in restitution.
Meantime the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee has nominated Attorney Nicole Williams to fill the seat of Gaines. This nomination requires the approval from Maryland Governor Larry Hogan.
