Today jury selection will begin in the case of a white University of Maryland Student charged with fatally stabbing a Bowie State University student to death. It happened in 2017 at the University of Maryland. 23-year-old Richard Collins III who was just days away from graduating was waiting for an Uber when he was approached by Sean Urbanski. Witnesses say Urbanski’s attack was unprovoked. Collins was stabbed in the chest and later died. He had just been commission by the U.S Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.
The men and women selected to be in the jury pool will have to decide if the murder was a hate crime. Prosecutors say Urbanksi was a member of the alt-right racist hate group online. Prosecutors say they are not seeking the death penalty. His trial is expected to last about a week. It will likely take two days for jury selection.
In Montgomery County jury selection begins for Police officer Kevin Moris who has been charged with second-degree assault against a 19-old-suspect last July in Aspen Hill.
