(Washington, D.C.) — If everything goes according to schedule, residents who work and plan on voting on primary election day could receive a two-hour leave under legislation approved by D.C. Council committees. The measure, which still must be approved by the entire council and signed by the mayor, compels businesses to give workers two hours of paid leave on Primary Election Day. The council committees also approved a measure that would require the Board of Elections to create a voter registration packet to be handed out to every new tenant and home buyer in the District. Primary day in D.C. is on June 2nd.
