Patrick Ellis
Since 1979, Patrick Ellis has been the popular host of Gospel Spirit on WHUR-FM. Under his leadership, the program remains the preeminent Sunday morning Gospel radio show in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area. Patrick began his broadcasting career at WHUR in 1971 as a Producer. He taught radio production courses at Howard University in the Radio/TV/Film Department from 1975-1977. He directed the Office of Student Affairs at WHUR from 1978-1984. Patrick coordinated student internships and was an important link between the University’s School of Communications and WHUR. In 1980 he was promoted to Public Affairs Director, a position held until 1986, when he became the station’s Production Director. In 1992 Patrick was promoted to his current position of Senior Producer. This native Washingtonian devotes much time to community and civic affairs. He has produced numerous charitable drives for Project Harvest, The United Negro College Fund, The American Cancer Society, Fisk University, The Howard University Center For Sickle Cell Disease, The Southern Africa Support Project, The Chi Child Development Center, The NAACP, The Family Crisis Center of Prince George’s County, Helping Hands, and Food 2 Feed. He has received a wealth of awards for his efforts from many churches and organizations. Patrick has a B.A degree in Communications from Howard University. He resides in Mitchellville, Maryland with his wife Angela, a Sales Manager at The Washington Post.
