Two months after announcing their secret marriage, Lena Waithe and wife, Alana Mayo have gone their separate ways.
Waithe is best known for her roles as a screenwriter, producer and LGBTQ activist. As well as her starring role in Netflix’s Master of None.
The former couple released a statement to E! News, stating, “After careful thought and consideration, we have decided to part ways,” a joint statement from their reps read. “We have nothing but support for one another and ask that you respect our privacy during this time.”
The pair announced their engagement in 2017 after dating for 3 years. Waithe revealed the marriage to guest host John Legend on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in November.
“We went to San Francisco. We went to the courthouse. Got married right in front of Harvey Milk’s bust. It was her idea, as all good things are,” Waithe explained. ” And she was just driving and she saw the courthouse and she said, ‘We should get married there.’ And I said, ‘Cool, I’m down.'”
There is no word on the cause of the split.
