“Akon City” has officially been approved to begin development in Akon’s hometown of Senegal, West Africa.
Blavity reports, that the city “would be built on 2,000 acres of land that was given to him by Senegal President Macky Sall.” Akon is a Grammy-nominated rapper that has ventured into the economic and political parts of society. CNN also reported how the rapper has his own currency that the city would use to trade, named, “Akoin.”
Akon took to Twitter saying, “Just finalized the agreement for AKON CITY in Senegal. Looking forward to hosting you there in the future.” According to Blavity, the rapper was raised in Senegal and moved to Union City, New Jersey, when he was seven.
Akon has made several guest appearances on shows like “The Real” and interviews with Nick Cannon to discuss his plans and passions. Last year on “The Real,” he revealed that he would consider potentially running for president in 2024.
Akon has worked with multiple artists ranging from Michael Jackson to Lady Gaga and has sold over 30 million records across the world.
