Prince George’s County Police Officer Convicted Of Assault

(Prince George’s County, MD) — A Prince George’s County police officer is guilty of punching a handcuffed suspect in the face. Corporal Stephen Downey was convicted today by a county circuit court judge of second-degree assault and misconduct in office. The incident happened near a CVS in Temple Hills last year. Downey hit the homeless man several times in the face as he sat handcuffed in the front seat of a cruiser. Downey was indicted in March.
