Mayor Muriel Bowser is holding a public safety summit with several organizations, District leaders, police departments and court officials. She believes hiring more officers is one answer, saying the department is facing its worst staffing shortage ever. The latest data shows overall crime is up 27-percent from last year, with sex abuse cases soaring 53-percent.
