D.C. Homicide Rate Outpacing 2020

Officials are worried the homicide rate in the District this year can top the rate in 2020

(Washington, DC) — Statistics released by the Metropolitan Police Department shows the homicide rate in the District is outpacing the murder rate in 2020. Police data shows a 43-percent increase in homicides from the same time last year, with 2021 totaling 63 murders as of today, compared to 43 this time last year. Officials are worried the homicide rate in the District this year can top the rate in 2020 which saw a 16-year-high mark in murder cases.
