Washington, D.C. – (Wednesday, January 3, 2024) – If you like being alone, living in Washington, DC, is the place for you. DC has been ranked the loneliest city in the United States. According to a report by the Chamber of Commerce, among DC’s 326,970 households, nearly half are occupied by one person.
The annual report called “Loneliest Cities In America” is based on Census Bureau data for one-person households across more than 170 cities. That same study also found that DC ranks #2 for cities with the most women living alone at 30%. Alexandria, Va., ranked #1. Atlanta was #3. DC ranked in 3rd place for the most men home alone at just under 28%. St. Louis, Missouri was #1, followed by Cleveland, Ohio at #2.
Nationwide, more than 37 million Americans live alone, representing nearly 30% of all households.
