Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is preparing to meet with her caucus today about opening impeachment proceedings against President Trump. It is not something that she is in support of at this time.
Pelosi has spent the last few weeks trying to steer the party away from taking that action against the President until all options had been taken to hold the administration accountable. This morning closed-door meeting follows growing anger after former White House counsel Don McGahn defied a subpoena to testify in a House committee yesterday. He is a key figure in Robert Mueller’s Russian investigation. The White House informed McGahn not to take part.
Pelosi reportedly believes if the party moves forward with impeachment proceedings at this point that it would drown out the party’s message and it could backfire on lawmakers in the 2020 presidential election.
