October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and you don’t have to look far in the DMV to be reminded that this issue remains in the headlines. In northern Virginia, the murder trial of Naresh Bhatt is in its third week. He’s accused of murdering and disposing of the body of his wife, Mamta Khafle Bhatt. Also in Northern Virginia, real estate agent Lisa Bradford was shot and killed inside her home in Aldie, in September. Her husband, Roger “Paul” Bradford has been charged with her murder. And in Prince George’s County a woman is still recovering after she was shot in Temple Hills in late September. The suspect was her boyfriend who took his own life later that morning during a police standoff. These are extreme examples of domestic violence, but there are very real and cannot and should not be ignored. We re-examine the landscape of the domestic violence issue and talk about possible solutions and resourses.
