A beloved grandmother and local reverend was tragically shot and killed while babysitting her grandchildren during a family gathering in Landover, Maryland.
According to FOX 5, 54-year-old Rev. Leslie Yvette Davis was hosting a special Mother’s Day sleepover for her four young grandchildren when the unthinkable happened. Davis’ daughters, Billie and Apri, arrived at the home and made the heartbreaking discovery of their mother’s body in her bedroom. Authorities say two of the children were near the scene but were not physically harmed.
“We’re calling her name, and then the kids were like, ‘No, Grandma’s lying over there’.” Billie recalled. “She was in between her bed and the window, and she was dead. She had been shot.”
Police believe the shooting may have been the result of mistaken identity or a misdirected act of violence. The family and local community are devastated, struggling to comprehend how a joyous family occasion turned into a nightmare.
Rev. Davis was not only a spiritual leader but also a source of strength and love for her family. The Prince George’s County Police Department is actively investigating, and the family is pleading with the public to come forward with any information that may lead to justice.
