(Annapolis, MD) — State lawmakers held a hearing on the Kirwan Commission’s recommendations on ways to improve Maryland public schools. The Commission’s suggestions are currently under review by the General Assembly. The 10-year plan calls for higher pay for teachers and expands programs for students to the cost of $4 billion a year. The Governor’s proposed budget includes $350 million in Kirwan funding. The total cost of the plan would be $32 billion over the next 10 years.
