Yesterday, the Prince George’s County Council was supposed to hear the results of an audit of a county-based nonprofit, Joan’s House. The interim executive director, Brianna Boston announced during the county council meeting, that the audit is not complete. This is the latest development in an on-going controversy about how millions of dollars in county grant money is awarded to nonprofits in the county. Last week in a letter, County Executive Aisha Braveboy demanded the return of more than seven million dollars in grant money from The Edward Charles Foundation, the fiscal sponsor of the nonprofit, Community on the Frontline. That foundation is in Beverly Hills, California. Council Chair Krystal Oriadha signed onto the letter. Oriahda and the executive director of Community on the Frontline, Janna Parker are close friends. Earlier this month, two county councilmembers, Jolene Ivey and Sydney Harrison called for an independent audit of both nonprofits. They’re raising questions about how the grant money has been awarded. We talk to both of them to hear what they have to say.
