The history of Black cemeteries in Georgetown has been literally written in stone for more than 200 years. But the deteriorating condition of the Mount Zion-Female Union Band Society cemeteries is a much more recent concern. It continues to raise questions about Black history, preservation and the future of these storied, hallowed grounds. We take a deep dive into all of these issues. What was, what is and what may be… when we talk about Black Georgetown.
