- WHUR and the United Way of the National Capital Area hosting, our King Day Stuff the Bus Book Drive Monday, January 20th from 9am to 1pm at Buck Lodge Middle School in Adelphi. Stop by and drop off your book. For a list of books needed or to purchase a book now, head over to whur.com.
- Also on Monday, The Kennedy Center presents their Martin Luther King Jr. Day Film Program: James Baldwin Double feature: I Am Not Your Negro and If Beale Street Could Talk. Starts at 11am.
- The 39th Annual MLK Parade kicks off at 11am, beginning at Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. SE & Good Hope Road. This annual parade that brings the entire community together on the holiday that celebrates the Civil Rights leader. Community activists, performers and civic leaders will all be on-hand for this event that aims to prolong Dr. King’s legacy and everlasting message of peace. The parade concludes with a community fair at the Gateway Pavilion.
- City Winery presents an action packed weekend….tonight it’s Jeff Bradshaw and friends featuring N’Dambi. Show time is 8pm. And then at 10pm EU featuring Sugar Bear takes to the stage. On Saturday it’s the Chuck Brown Band for an 8pm show and on Sunday, Elle Varner performs for two shows, 6:30 and 10pm.
- Bell Biv Devoe is in town at The Theater at MGM National Harbor. Sunday, show time is 8pm.
- Blues Alley presents Jazz Saxophonist Kirk Whalum this week for two shows each night 8 & 10pm.
- On Sunday, catch Snoop Dogg, at the Filmore Silver Spring. Show time is 8pm.
