DC Emancipation Day 2026 commemorates the 164th anniversary of the DC Compensated Emancipation Act. The legal holiday honors the 1862 abolition of slavery in the District. This year the celebration and parade will be Sunday, April 19, 2026, featuring a festival, parade (1:30 PM), and concert (2 PM) at Franklin Park @ 1332 I St NW).
