This is a difficult but very necessary conversation for black women in the District who are pregnant or who may become pregnant. The statistics for pregnancy-related deaths remain heartbreakingly high. Black women make up 95% of them. The lion’s share, 60%, are in wards 7 and 8, east of the Anacostia river. These are not new numbers. But what is new is that the numbers are not changing, not improving. Why is that and what can be done about it?
