Drivers, Pedestrians and Dangerous DC Roads

Why is this happening now and what is the city doing to address this issue?

When you were a kid your parents told you to look both ways before crossing the street.  But in the District of Columbia it seems drivers aren’t giving pedestrians the same consideration.  Injuries and deaths are on the rise in the district.  Just this month we’ve seen high-profile incidents involving vehicles and children. Drivers are speeding, running stop lights, stop signs, often near or through school zones.  Why is this happening now and what is the city doing to address this issue?  What is your responsibility as a driver?
