A New Film Looks at The Social Justice Movement Bobby Gailes December 18, 2020 at 6:05 am in TAKING IT TO THE STREETS Tweet Arena Stage’s production of “The 51st State” We are heading to the theater this morning on Taking It to the Streets. Arena Stage has a new production underway at the Mead Center for American Theater. It’s a docudrama called “The 51st State,” inspired by protests and the quest to make DC the 51st state. My guest is Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi – Playwright for “The 51st State”. Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater’s latest world premier docudrama is The 51st State. This is a hyper local 60-minute film created by DC artists thru the voices of 11 residents. The movie is inspired by protests and the re-ignition of a movement after the death of George Floyd and the quest for creating DC as the 51st state.
