Washington, DC – (Thursday, December 15, 2022) – DMV native Caleb Williams won the Heisman Trophy Saturday. It is a ‘local boy does good’ story and the determination of a father watching his son’s dreams come true.  WHUR’s Bremante Bryant talks with Carl Williams about his love for his son and the work it takes to produce a sports winner.

The University of Southern California Sophomore quarterback Caleb Williams was announced as the 88th Heisman Trophy winner at ESPN’s 2022 Heisman Trophy Ceremony.

When asked about sharing this moment with his parents at the ceremony, “It was a lot of happiness, after all the hard work they’ve seen me put in over the years to get me to this point. There were a lot of tears from them and I almost got caught up in it. I can’t thank them enough,” Caleb said.


The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to a college football athlete that displays the most outstanding talents. The winners are determined by their great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. It is presented before postseason bowl games by the Heisman Trophy Trust.
