One year ago this week, President Trump sent the National Guard into the streets of D.C., declaring a crime emergency and promising to make the nation’s capital safer and more beautiful. Twelve months later, thousands of troops remain, the mission has been extended through 2029, and the debate over whether the guard is needed or has been effective continues. We take a look at the past year…what’s ahead and why the ACLU-DC continues to challenge the Guard’s presence in court.
