(Monday, June 24, 2024) – Traffic on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will be halted for an hour today from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. to allow the Dali Cargo Ship to move through. It’s the same ship that crashed into the Baltimore Key Bridge back in March, killing six workers, and toppling parts of the Key Bridge into the waters.
The Dali is headed to Norfolk, Virginia for additional repairs and to remove the remaining containers. The Maryland Transportation Authority said in a statement that bridge traffic would be halted “out of an abundance of caution” as the 984-foot Dali passes beneath. Officials said the decision was made after consulting with the U.S. Coast Guard. The hold is expected to last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.
Four tugboats are accompanying the Dali to provide anchoring support.
