(Wednesday, September 11, 2024) – The family of Howard Stanley Beverly known to his fans as “Frankie Beverly” announced this morning the passing of the beloved singer and songwriter. No details were given on the cause of death. The family says Beverly passed away on September 10th. Frankie Beverly was 77.

In a statement released on social media, the family asked for privacy and understanding saying they needed time to navigate feelings of sorrow, reflection, and remembrance. Beverly was a legend in the industry. The singer, songwriter, and producer was best known as the founder and frontman of the R&B sensation band Maze.

Frankie Beverly was a fan favorite around the country and here in the DMV where he was known to sell out D.A.R Constitution Hall every time he would come to town. Beverly performed his final concert in Philadelphia at the Dell Music Center in North Philly, were he had wooed crowds for decades.

Born on December 6, 1946 in Philadelphia, Beverly’s career began in the 1960s and spanned nearly 60 years with his smooth blend of soul, funk, and R&B. His hits were plentiful like “Before I let Go,” “We Are One,” “Back In Stride,” “Love Is the Key,” and many more.
