Climate activists are blocking busy DC intersections at this hour. Organizers of the Shut Down DC protest say they are trying to bring the city to a standstill to raise awareness and encourage action on the issue of climate change. Protesters are blocking or causing traffic to slow at 14th and C streets SW, 16th and K streets, 16th and I streets, 18th and Massachusetts Avenue, and 12th and Independence Avenue. DC Homeland Security is warning drivers that they could face delays in the afternoon commute. Commuters are advised to use public transportation.
