(Washington, DC) — The Justice Department is filing criminal charges over the death of Breonna Taylor in 2020. The Black woman was sleeping when police raided her apartment and was fatally shot. Attorney General Merrick Garland told reporters four current and former Louisville Metro Police Department officers are being charged. Garland said an affidavit used to obtain a search warrant was falsified. He noted that federal civil rights laws were violated, resulting in the young woman’s death.
