(Washington, DC) — Ticks are posing a bigger risk in the DC area this summer. Experts say that’s because of the mild winter that kept the blood-sucking parasites active for longer. They’re offering a variety of tips to help keep families safe, including using insect repellent with DEET, wearing long-sleeved clothes, and taking a shower after being outdoors. The Lyme Disease Association says ticks live in tall grass, wooded areas, and small shrubs, so it’s important to check for them behind the knees and under sock lines.
