Jean Knight, the singer best known for the hit song “Mr. Big Stuff,” has died at age 80. Knight, a New Orleans native, died on Nov. 22, but the cause of death was not disclosed.
Former Louisiana Music Commission executive director Bernie Cyrus said in a statement, “She was the first person we appointed on the board when we took it over, and we had a long relationship with her, and she was just fabulous. She was always willing to get involved with good causes and help out.”
“Mr. Big Stuff” was a No. 1 R&B hit and a top 10 pop hit in 1971.
