“The function of education is to teach one to think intensively and to think critically. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education.” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Place a book in the hands of a child and provide them with knowledge that will last a life-time. Join 96.3 WHUR and United Way of the National Capital Area for our Dr. King Day Stuff the Bus Book Drive Monday, January 20th. Drop off books from 9am to 1pm at Buck Lodge Middle School in Adelphi. For a list of books needed, check out the Stuff the Bus Book Drive Booklist or make a donation and we’ll do the shopping for you. Book prices range between $6.00 – $15.00 per book. For as little as $30 , you can supply 5 students with a new book.
Our goal is to collect 5,000 NEW books to ensure low-income middle school students have access to the grade appropriate books they need to advance their reading skills and improve academic outcomes. You can either drop off a new book at the Dr. King Stuff the Bus Book Drive on January 20th or make a donation online thru January 31st and we will purchase the books for you. In addition to the book drive, the Maryland Multicultural Youth Centers will host a day of activities to spark discussion and activism among youth in honor of Dr. King.
