Larry Nassar, the disgraced sports doctor convicted of sexually abusing members of the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team, has reportedly been stabbed in prison.

Nassar was stabbed multiple times during an altercation with a fellow prisoner at a federal penitentiary in Florida. The 59-year-old Nassar is serving a 175-year sentence for abusing more than 150 young girls over a period of nearly two decades.

According to ESPN, a source with details of the attack, say Nassar was stabbed at least ten time with at two of those being in the neck.

He was convicted in 2018. Attorney and victim advocate Sarah Klein, the first known woman to be abused by Nassar said, “I want him to face the severe prison sentence he received because of the voices of survivors.” She continues, “I absolutely do not support violence because it’s morally wrong and death would be an easy out for Nassar.”

How was Nassar able to get away with his crimes for so long?  What kind of safeguards are needed to prevent it?
