Congratulations to Lonnie Bunch III on his installation as the 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution. On Friday November 1, 2019 he was presented the brass key that once opened the door of the Smithsonian Castle by the Chancellor of the Smithsonian Institution Chief Justice John G. Roberts representing the passing of knowledge and guardianship to the incoming Secretary. Kenny Lattimore sang the National Anthem at the beginning of the installation ceremony and “Lift Every Voice and Sing” at its closing. Lonnie Bunch was the founding director of the National Museum of African American History and Culture and is now the first African American to become Secretary of the Smithsonian.
