The First African American Woman Racehorse Trainer

Celebrating Women’s History Month

Some women’s history this morning as we mark Women’s History Month.  My guest today tells the story of the first African American woman racehorse trainer and she lived right here in the DMV.  Author Vicky Moon joins me to highlight the amazing story of Sylvia Rideoutt Bishop. My guest is Vicky Moon – Author of the book Sylvia Rideoutt Bishop

Local author Vicky Moon tells the story of Sylvia Rideoutt Bishop, the first African-American female horserace trainer.  Sylvia’s love for horses took her to the Charles Town racetrack at the age of 14 where she would later break barriers and shatter stereotypes, celebrating countless transforming victories in the winner’s circle.
