No More Washington Wizards: Lawmakers Plan To Move NHL’s Capitals, NBA’s Wizards To Virginia

Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and Ted Leonsis, the owner of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards, have announced a proposed $2 billion entertainment district in Alexandria.

The plan includes a new arena to relocate both teams to the Potomac Yard neighborhood. The project, which still needs approval at the local and state level, would require the creation of a stadium authority. Governor Youngkin called it a “once-in-a-generation and historic development” that would bring 30,000 new jobs to the area.

Monumental chairman and CEO Ted Leonsis expressed a commitment to providing world-class fan experiences and being leaders in sports and technology.
