WHUR & FedEx Host 11th Annual Moms Who Serve Luncheon

WHUR and FedEx host the 11th Annual Moms Who Serve Luncheon. These are ladies who are military veterans, MPD officers, firefighters, EMS workers, and healthcare employees.

Washington, D.C. (Thursday, May 11, 2023) – 96.3 WHUR and FedEx teamed up today to host their “11th Annual Moms Who Serve Mother’s Day Luncheon.”  Dozens of mothers representing the military, the Metropolitan Police Department, DC Fire and EMS, and the healthcare arena gathered at the Point Restaurant in SW, DC for a day of food, fun, and lots of giveaways.

It was a chance for the ladies to break free for a few hours from their busy lives as mothers and career women.  “We know that being a mom is a tough job.  But add being a police officer, a military veteran, a firefighter/EMS worker, or a healthcare worker; I know that makes for a very demanding 24 hours every day. That’s why we are honored to host these special moms to show them how much we truly appreciate the supreme sacrifice they make everyday for our communities and country,” said WHUR General Manager Sean Plater.

NBC4 News Anchor Molettte Green was the MC of the luncheon which was made possible because of the generous flagship sponsorship of FedEx.  “I was so happy to be a part of the day.  I love good news stories. It was a joy seeing all the beautiful ladies and knowing this was a chance for them to get a well-deserved day of appreciation.

The day began with greetings from FedEx Strategic Account Manager Denike Williams.  “At FedEx, we strive to make a positive difference in the community we serve.  Today is an important example of our commitment to support the DMV year round.  We know that spending time away from your family can be very difficult which is why we are honored to host this luncheon yearly.  It’s just one of the many ways we show our appreciation for the hardwork and hardships our military and first responder moms endure everyday,” said Williams.

“It was such an amazing day.  The food was amazing.  I was able to connect with my colleagues and make some new friends.  But the best part of the day was all the goodies we got.  I mean flowers, gift bags and I even won a pair of concert tickets.  It was a great way to kick off the Mother’s Day weekend.  Thank you WHUR and FedEx,” said Lt. Leslie Royster.

Other supports of today’s luncheon included: Macy’s Downtown Metro Center, Ulta Beauty of Capitol Heights, ruist Bank, Restoration Center In., Lee’s Flower and Card Shop, and The Point Restaurant.
