Two Small Children In Serious Condition After Being Thrown From A Window During A fire

A fire last night in Southwest DC leaves two children injured and some 16 people without a place to call home.

A grandmother had to throw her 18-month-old and 6-year-old grandchildren out of a second-floor window during a fire last night. Some good Samaritan’s stepped up to help catch the children. The 18-month-old was caught. The 6-year-old, however, hit the ground. Fire and EMS responded to the 4400 block of Martin Luther King Jr Avenue a short time later to help put out the apartment fire.

The grandmother had to be rescued and she was not hurt. The American Red Cross is helping the families now displaced. Fire officials say there were no working smoke detectors in the apartment building. The cause is still under investigation.
